That doesn’t mean Windows hasn’t been taking notice. While it may already be on top, the folks over at Microsoft are not above taking a good idea from their competitor and doing something similar in Windows 10. /download-winebottler-for-mac-yosemite/. Heck, sometimes it’s just convergent evolution, where two features happen to be similar because both provide a good solution to the same problem.

While no one could argue that Windows and MacOS provide the same experience, the following Windows features bring some of the most popular aspects of MacOS to the PC OS king.

Dark Mode

Ah dark mode. It’s a feature people seem to want in every single app and device on the market these days. Basically, it turns all the light UI elements into dark ones.

People have varying reasons why they want dark mode functionality in the first place. Some believe it will make their batteries last longer and others don’t like the eye-searing brightness of “light mode”. It seems especially popular among those who like to sit in darkness and work on their computer. We’re not judging, but maybe turn on a light every now and then?

Regardless of why you want dark mode, with the release of MacOS Mojave, Apple users got a system-wide dark mode that included all native apps. This made plenty of people very happy and it wasn’t long until Windows 10 got its own dark theme. Which is very nearly the same thing. Now you don’t need to invest in a new set of shades when switching from a Mac to a Windows PC.

“Your Phone” Is Like iMessage For Android

Apple has done a marvelous job of integrating their various hardware devices with each other. iMessage on Mac is a great example of this. You can seamlessly transition from your iPhone to your Mac and carry on with conversations, without skipping a beat.

Windows 10 now has an app called “Your Phone”, which does this and more. If you have an Android phone with version 7.0 of the mobile OS or later, you can connect the two devices and basically get your phone’s function ported through to your Windows machine.

That includes being able to reply to text messages from your Windows computer, getting phone notifications on your computer and having access to your photos from the desktop.

It’s an incredibly useful application and if it’s not already on your Windows 10 computer, you can pick it up for free from the Windows Store.

“Nearby Sharing” Is Like AirDrop

AirDrop is one of the most useful features of Apple devices. It makes it an absolute doddle to share files between Macs and iOS devices quickly over local networks.

People have wanted an AirDrop-like function in Windows for ages and “Nearby Sharing” is pretty close. At the time of writing Android and iOS are on the roadmap, but for the time being it only works between Windows PCs.

Once mobile OS support is added, there will be almost perfect parity between macOS and Windows when it comes to AirDrop-like functionality.

The Xbox App Can Replace Quicktime Screen Recorder

Depending on the type of work you do, you may need a screen recorder quite often. Whether trying to show a problem to someone, creating training material or simply creating shareable content, screen recorders are an essential tool for modern digital living.

Xbox Download Mac

In MacOS, we have Quicktime Screen Recorder, a simple utility that lets you make a video file from whatever is happening on your screen. Well, it turns out that you can use the Windows 10 Xbox app to do pretty much the same thing.

It has a built-in screen recorder which can be activated using a keyboard shortcut. You first need to activate the Xbox app’s Game Bar by pressing Win+G and giving it permission. From then on, you can start or stop screen recordings simply by pressing Win+Alt+R.

The Windows Taskbar Is Really a Dock Now

For years Windows users were pretty envious of the dock in MacOS. There was a large proliferation of third-party dock apps for earlier versions of Windows, such as RocketDock.

You won’t find any such Windows applications released recently however. That’s because the taskbar in Windows 10 does much of what made the dock so popular to begin with. You can pin all your most frequently used apps to it. Multiple windows stack into single icons and you can preview them just by hovering your cursor.

These days it’s pretty normal to have app launchers such as Steam or Adobe Creative Cloud, so most people only ever need a dozen or so pinned icons on their taskbars.

Cortana Is Like Siri

Is Siri a popular feature of MacOS? We’ll never know how many people actually use Siri as a proportion of MacOS users, but we can say that Siri works incredibly well.

Apple pioneered this conversational interface with the iPhone 4S and it now lives across all Apple devices. Siri is intuitive, accurate and fast. Making many common tasks easier to do.

Xbox App For Macbook

On Windows 10, we have Cortana as the voice assistant and smart search app. Cortana isn’t quite as polished as Siri, but Microsoft has been steadily improving the service over time. In fact, when it comes to pure brains, Cortana might actually be better overall.

Xbox App For Mac Os X

In the early days, users tended to disable Cortana thanks to its clunkiness, but if you haven’t tried using it in a while, it’s definitely worth booting her up again. You may be surprised.

The Best of Both Worlds

Competition is a good thing. A world where only one operating system dominates is one without innovation. When Apple does something laudable with macOS, Windows users benefit and vice versa.

While there will never be an equivalent user experience between the two, people who use both, or just those who show a little envy looking across the fence, can get the best of both worlds with equivalent features, both present and to come.

Currently Xbox Live Anywhere isn't available yet, but it will soon be released to Windows 10 machines. If you've setup your Mac with Windows 10 on Boot Camp and installed the Xbox app, you'll have. What are the chances XBOX delivers an app for Mac OS X? Edit: Didn't make this clear originally, but I would LOVE to see this, as I always have my macbook open when I'm gaming. The PTZOptics camera control application controls pan, tilt, zoom cameras connected via IP and USB and provides maximum flexibility for video productions. After an extended beta-testing period, Apple launched updates for all of its operating systems today, including macOS, iOS, iPadOS, watchOS, and tvOS.

In general, the updates are focused on supporting the various new products Apple announced last week, as well as implementing App Tracking Transparency, fixing bugs, and adding new features and tweaks to existing software like Safari, Music, and Reminders.

We'll discuss iOS and iPadOS (as usual, arguably the biggest updates) in another article. For now, here's what you can expect to see in today's tvOS, watchOS, and macOS updates.

tvOS 14.5

While tvOS releases like this are usually just bug-fix updates, there are some new features of note this time around.

Like the latest updates to iOS, iPadOS, and macOS, tvOS 14.5 adds support for the PlayStation 5's DualSense controller and the Xbox Series X S controller. Many of the games on the Apple TV require traditional controllers to play. tvOS already supported the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One controllers, so this update just makes the Apple TV work with the newer-generation gamepads.

Additionally, tvOS 14.5 adds the 'Adjust Color Balance' feature that Apple talked about during its event unveiling the new Apple TV 4K last week. While the company demonstrated it on the new model, this feature is also available on prior models like the 2017 Apple TV 4K with this update.

Adjust Color Balance uses sensors in your iPhone to analyze the conditions of your surroundings and automatically adjust the color balance of content on the Apple TV to something approximating industry-standard specifications.

The much-talked-about App Tracking Transparency privacy requirement that has been so controversial on iOS will also be enforced on tvOS starting with this update. Finally, tvOS 14.5 is the first version of the Apple TV software to support the new Apple TV 4K and the redesigned Siri Remote that comes with it (the new remote also works with older models and can be ordered separately).

watchOS 7.4

Today's Apple Watch update is a small one, meant primarily to support a new feature in iOS. That feature is the ability to unlock your phone with the Apple Watch when Face ID is obstructed by a mask. Apple writes the following in its release notes for watchOS 7.4:

iPhone can use your Apple Watch to unlock when Face ID detects a fact with a mask. Your Apple Watch must be nearby, on your wrist, unlocked, and protected by a pass code.

watchOS 7.4 also adds ECG and irregular heart-rhythm notification support to two new regions (Australia and Vietnam), the ability to 'classify Bluetooth device type in Settings for correct identification of headphones for audio notifications,' and the ability to stream audio and video from Apple Fitness+ workouts to AirPlay 2 devices. Apple has published the full release notes for watchOS 7.4, but we covered all the main bullet points here.

macOS Big Sur 11.3

macOS Big Sur 11.3 is the largest of the three updates we're discussing today. It includes several new features and optimizations for M1 Macs and various apps like Music and Safari, among other things.

AirTags support

Last week, Apple announced and began taking orders for AirTags, its new Tile-like geolocation devices. This macOS software update adds support for AirTags. Users can use macOS's Find My app to find lost items to which they've attached AirTags, like purses, backpacks, or wallets.

Improvements to iOS and iPadOS apps on M1 Macs

Xbox App Mac Os

One of the key promises of the new Apple Silicon chips in the latest Macs—such as the M1 seen in last year's MacBook Air, low-end 13-inch MacBook Pro, and low-end Mac mini (as well as the just-announced 24-inch iMac)—is that Macs can natively run iPhone and iPad apps, giving them access to thousands of high-quality apps that weren't previously available.

We were very critical of the iPhone and iPad app experience when we reviewed the first Apple Silicon Macs late last year. We found that input could be a pain, and the apps were often presented in static, unresizable windows that made for a poor experience.

Below: A gallery of our various observations about iPhone and iPad apps running on M1 Macs, from our Mac mini review in November. This gallery reflects the state of things before today's changes.

Apple has addressed some (but by no means all) of those problems with macOS Big Sur 11.3. Users can now tweak an iPhone or iPad app's window size, and certain keyboard and mouse inputs can now be used in place of some types of input that are available on mobile devices.

Safari

macOS updates usually have a big focus on Safari, and that's generally true with this one, too. You can now customize the start page section order, support has been added for WebM and Vorbix video and audio formats, and new features and APIs have been implemented for developers.

All three updates are available to supported devices worldwide right now.

Xbox 360 Controller Driver is a driver that supports the Microsoft Xbox series of controllers including:

Xbox App Download Mac Os

  • Original Xbox
    • Original Xbox controllers are supported by using a USB adapter.
  • Xbox 360
    • Wired Xbox 360 controllers are supported directly.
    • As of macOS 10.11, Wireless Xbox 360 controller support causes kernel panics. This issue cannot be resolved with minor changes to the driver, and requires that the driver be re-written from scratch to resolve the issue. Due to an excess of caution, we have disabled Wireless Xbox 360 controller support as of 0.16.6. If you want to use a wireless controller, download 0.16.5 or earlier and disable the driver before the computer enters a 'sleep' state in order to prevent kernel panics. Alternatively, you can revert to a macOS version before 10.11 to avoid this issue.
  • Xbox One
    • Xbox One controllers are supported when connected with a micro USB cable. Using the controller with the Wireless Adapter is not currently supported.
    • Bluetooth capable Xbox One controllers (released after August 2016) are natively supported by macOS without the use of this driver. However, installing this driver will allow you to use the controller via USB.

The driver provides developers with access to both force feedback and the LEDs of the controllers. Additionally, a preference pane has been provided so that users can configure their controllers and ensure that the driver has been installed properly.

Controller support includes ALL devices that work with an Xbox series piece of hardware. All wheels, fight sticks, and controllers should work. This includes things like the Xbox One Elite controller. If your hardware does not work with an Xbox console we cannot support it. Sorry.
